Jeddah

Jeddah is the natural base: a major airport, plenty of hotels, and almost 6 minutes of totality on the Red Sea coast. Saudi Arabia offers tourist e-visas to many nationalities.

Abha and the Asir mountains

Abha, in the mountains of the south-west, gets just over 6 minutes and is much cooler than the coast in August, which makes it attractive for a midday eclipse.

Mecca

Mecca sees 5 minutes of totality, but only Muslims may enter the city. Jeddah, about an hour away, has longer totality anyway.

Yemen

The path continues over Yemen, including Sana'a. Most governments currently advise against all travel to Yemen; check official advice.

Plan your stay

Hotels fill up early for total eclipses. Searches are set for the nights of August 1–2, 2027.
